Wake
The Wonderful aroma of your hair fills the
Atmosphere pulling my mind into a world
Kept only for you and me our
Eternal paradise together.
I awoke the first morning of our honeymoon, to her face inches away from mine. I smiled it was all I could do. “It was the first day of the rest of my life.” Was the first thing that came to my mind, I truly understood the meaning of those words now. I kissed her gently so I wouldn’t wake her, then I got out of bed carefully.
I walked around the suite we were staying in, I looked over everything making plans for the morning, then headed into the kitchen to see what was there. This was the first day of our marriage and the rest of our life together, it had to be a special day, no it had to be perfect.
I looked through the fridge that was there, not very much to cook with but I wasn’t about to let that stop me from making this the day perfect. I went back to the room, and she was still lying in bed sleeping peacefully. Good, I thought. “I guess not being able to sleep for more than five hours at a time does have its upsides.” I looked over at the clock and grabbed my phone to check the time the sun would be rising, I had just about an hour. It would be more than enough time for me to get breakfast ready. I got dressed quickly and ran out of the room down to the street.
We were staying in Italy, the market was getting ready to open nearby the hotel. I ran to all the vendors that were setting up asking for the ingredients I would need, and any ideas they had that I could make quickly. I glanced at the time I had to start getting things together soon, or I wouldn’t have time. I ran to the last vendor all I needed now was eggs. Hopefully, he had eggs the previous three didn’t have any, and I was running out of time. He had them, and as I paid for the eggs, my phone started to vibrate. It must be the alarm I had set to remind myself to leave the market, I pulled my phone from my pocket to dismiss the alarm as I ran towards the hotel.
I looked on the screen for the red button, and I saw Kellie’s face. I realized I still had a few minutes before the alarm went off as I saw the time. I might as well answer I thought as I answered the call. “Hey, Kell what’s up?” I said while trying to run and hold everything in my hands at the same time. “I just got home, and I knew your sweetheart wouldn’t be awake yet. It’s 5:45 there right? Well anyway, I was just checking in on you, maybe you will have time now to give me some of those details you promised me before you got on the plane, and left me to sleep without anything to think about.” She answered. “You know it’s kind of creepy you know what time it is here when no one was supposed to even know where we were going. If I didn’t know any better, I would think you were stocking me.” I said to her laughing. Kellie wasn’t just my closest friend she was also my business partner, the one that made sure I stayed on track and finished writing every book I said I was going to. She always knew where I was and what I was doing pretty much all the time. It was like she could read my mind, something I could never figure out how she did, but I didn’t really care. “Well, I don’t have the time right now to give you the details of the wedding. I’m in a bit of a rush right now… I’m sorry but I will make sure I tell you everything as soon as possible.” I replied to her, arriving at the entrance to the hotel.
I tripped over my feet and almost dropped everything, but somehow I save myself from falling. Pushing the phone back up to my ear all I heard was here laughing. “You need to be more careful, next time you might actually fall, and then your plans would be ruined.” She said still laughing, I almost asked how she knew but then how could she not after all the noise I just made. “Well, I know you will tell me when you get back. I only called to see if you were safe, have a good honeymoon. Oh and here’s a tip put the eggs in the toaster oven on low and, make sure it’s in a glass bowl, it will take 10 minutes to cook so you can watch the sunrise while it does. You’re very welcome by the way.” She said as I walked into the door of the hotel. “Thanks, Kell that will help a lot I’ll talk to you soon.” I replied while walking to my room trying to get my key card out. “Don’t worry I know she is going to take your phone, I’ll see you when you get back have fun and don’t drop the eggs, night.” She said almost laughing. “Night Kell.” She hung up, and I ended up dropping the phone to save the eggs from falling. That was close I thought. “It’s still weird how she does that.” I said to myself as I reached for my key card and opened the door.
It was still dark in the room, which meant she hadn’t woken up yet. I quickly got the eggs ready and placed it in the oven. I had fifteen minutes before the sun would be rising, so I didn’t turn it on. I still had a lot to do before I would need to turn it on, and only ten minutes to do it in. I grabbed the flowers I had gotten from the bag, unwrapped them and started separating them into ones. Then used the red ones to draw a line from the room to the table. Then I took the white ones and made a circle around the table. I put the last two bright blue roses in the center of the table and headed to the kitchen to get what I needed to set the table.
I set the table with the white wedding glasses we had gotten the day before, I had managed to hide them in my luggage when she wasn’t looking. Then I went to my bag and got the rose I brought with me, one that I had grown myself just for this day. It was blue and pink with just a touch of red in the center, no thorns of any kind, and its smell was like perfume. I had taken great care to twist two of them together as they grew to form what looked like one steam that grew two roses.
I placed it on the table in the center between the other two blue ones. Then I got the flower petals I had brought from the bag and went to the room. I placed them around the bed then made a line leading to the balcony where I spread them to make a red heart with a blue outline. I placed two pillows on the ground behind the heart where we would sit. Three more minutes and the sun would be rising, I had to hurry. I ran back to the kitchen as fast as I could without making any noise. I turned on the oven and the coffee maker then headed back to the room.
“It’s time to wake up baby.” I said as I kissed her lips, she opened her eyes and pulled me in close for another kiss. She sat up and started to stretch, her face light up as her hands went above her head. Seeing all of the petals around her shocked her and froze her for a moment. “Aww baby you did this for me that’s so cute.” I kissed her again then pulled her from the bed. “This is just the beginning baby, now hurry up and follow the flower petals.” We walked to the door, I opened it, and there she saw the blue heart, the red flowers were too dark for her to see at the moment, which was just how I wanted it. Her smile grew even more as we sat. I pointed forward. “Look baby, it’s our first sunrises as a married couple. And it looks like the sun is taking its time just for the two of us today.”
The sunrise was more beautiful than any we had seen before, and it pulled us in as we watched it slowly climb into the sky. The first rays of light hit our faces and as it did the warmth of the light made us feel like the sunrise was just for us and no one else. I leaned over and kissed her lips pulling her attention away from the sun. As I pulled back from the kiss, her eyes saw the heart in front of us again, and she grabbed onto me hugging and kissing me. “Your amazing baby, I love you so much.” I smiled as I directed her attention to the roses that lead back inside to the table.
I lead her back to the table following the roses on the ground. As she saw the table, her hands flew around me. “Have I told you how much I love you yet? Where did you find that rose I haven’t seen one in years, I thought they stopped making them.” She said as she walked to the table, about to reach for the roses in the middle. “It’s not like the fake one I gave you the first time, that one is real I grew it just for you, just for today. I love you, and I wanted today to be perfect for you.” I said as I walked to the kitchen, by now everything should be hot and ready. I quickly put everything on a tray. Then headed back out to her. She looked up at me smiling as I set the table. “It’s more than perfect baby, you’re wonderful. I can’t believe you had the time to think of all this and do it.” She said to me as I sat next to her. As we fed each other, I got lost in the moment and started to think about the rest of my life.
The rest of the honeymoon went by like in a flash. We spent the rest of it exploring the city, enjoying the wonderful dinners we made with each other, laughing and joking around. Every day I woke thinking about how lucky I was to be waking up next to her. “This was all I would need for the rest of my life.” Was the first thought I had waking up the last day of our honeymoon. It stayed with me all through the flight and left me smiling and happy the whole way.
