A past apart
Now together at last.
Now we embark on a journey
To create new memories.
To go through the good and bad
The up’s and downs.
The moments of joy and sorrow
Together we face the future.
Together we create a new past.
Our plane landed, and as it did, it marked the end of our honeymoon and our first week together. I walked out of the plane and turned on my phone, as it loaded I got two hundred new emails all from work. Then I got a barrage of text messages and voicemails, once they finally stop coming in, I got one from Kellie. Hope you enjoyed your week off and your honeymoon. Now it’s time to get back to work, you have four articles to finish and three book summaries to review before I send them out tonight, not to mention catching up on all the meetings you missed last week. Oh, by the way I’ll be there in ten minutes to pick you up.
The message snapped me back to the reality of my life as a business owner, I had a lot of work to catch up on for the new year and being gone for a whole week just made it so much worst. As I was opening the emails a hand came over the screen, then it pulled the phone right from my hands. I looked up at my wife. I looked up, and the annoyed look on her face spoke before her words could leave her mouth. “We just got off the plane, you could at least wait till we get home before you start worrying about work. I do need your attention to you know.” She said with her hands on her hips, looking at me frowning. “I’m sorry baby, I’ll go get the bags while you get a cab for us ok.” I answered then turned and headed to the baggage area.
My wife headed to get a cab, and as she waved for one to stop, a black car pulled up in front of her. “Hey Crystal how are you, I thought I would come and pick you guys up.” Said Kellie from inside the car as the windows rolled down. “Really? Well, that’s nice of you, even though I know you’re just here to get him back to work.” Replayed Crystal with a hint of sarcasm in her voice, as she stepped up to the car and got in the passenger side, then pointed to the door where I would be coming out of. I walked up just as they pulled up in front of the door. The trunk popped open, and I put the bags in as fast as I could, I never liked this airport, everyone here was always in a rush as if they were having the worst day ever.
I finished putting the bags away despite the three cars behind me blowing their horns and the drivers screaming at me to get out of the road, then got into the back seat. I closed the door, and I could feel the tension in the air, Crystal was not happy to see Kellie. “She must not want me back at work yet.” I thought as the car moved forward.
The car ride felt like it was taking forever, five minutes of total silence, not even the radio was on. I looked at the two of them in the front, and I could see the tension between them, I had to do something to break the tension before it got any worst. I opened my mouth to try and say something that would break the tension, but Kellie beat me to it. “I’m sorry Crystal, but Will has to come back to work today. He has a lot to catch up on that he didn’t do because of planning the wedding, and now he has even more to do from being gone a whole week. It’s already hard to keep up with everything on my own for a day but a whole week is almost impossible, and I did it so you guys would have a good honeymoon.” Said Kellie, seeming to defuse the tension for a moment, but I didn’t know if what she said was going to make it better or make the situation worse.
Crystal just looked over at her very annoyed. “I know it’s hard to do on your own, but I also know they are other people that work for you that can help you out.” Crystal replayed to her not making eye contact for even a moment. “Yes they are other people that can help me with the work, but he is the face of the publishing aspect of the company, I can send as many emails as I want and make calls all day, but he still has to show up to meetings every once in a while.” Kellie said trying her best not to be annoyed.
Nothing was said for some time after that, so I decided to say something to try and bring peace between the two of them. “How about this ladies, you both can go out shopping today, I’ll deal with the bags, and get all my work done. Then I’ll pick you guys back up at eight, then we’ll go out to dinner at your favorite restaurant to finish off the day just you baby and me. I know it’s not a perfect solution, but you can spend some time together doing something you both like to do. While I do what I have to do, how does that sound?” I said with my fingers crossed hoping that my idea would go over well with everyone, I did have a lot of work to catch up on and this would give me a chance to do a lot of it, and get the rest in order so I wouldn’t be late on anything. “Okay, I can deal with that today.” Crystal said relaxing a bit and then starting to smile a little. I smiled as I could feel the tension leave the car.
The car pulled up to the house, I got out and took the bags from the trunk then kissed her, she pulled me back as I was about to walk away. “You better not be late tonight baby.” She said then let me go, I grabbed the bags from the ground and watched as the car drove off. I quickly changed my clothes, got in my car and headed into the office, it was going to be a very long day for me. I would be going from meetings to meetings, and trying to write all my articles in between, and read as many book summaries as possible once I finished the articles.
However, with all I had to do, my mind was somewhere else the whole time, all I could think was how things were going with Crystal and Kellie. It seemed a bit odd to me seeing that they never had a problem before. “It must just be because we just got back and she isn’t ready to let me go back to work just yet.” I said to myself as I headed to one of the meetings.
